Black cat blues
We are full. No more animals. I decided this months ago. Months.
There is a small black cat eating catfood at our barn. I initially struck up a conversation with it, and called it Killer, since I thought it was Killer, one of our in/out house cats that is black. I knew it wasn't Elwood, our barn cat who is also black, because Elwood is big, long , lanky. Not to mention Elwood was watching the cat eat from the pile of horse blankets. The other 2 black cats are house cats, so it HAD to be Killer. I became mildly offended when "Killer" acted like I was an alien from outer space, and turned tail to vanish.
The mystery was resolved when I saw Killer at the porch, as friendly as ever.
This is the problem with black cats. As discussed before, best practice would involve having only one. It is hard to do maintenance and inventory on cats you can not easily tell apart. However, the Forces of the Universe tend to laugh at my rules, and there is now another feral cat hanging around, who happens to be black.
Sigh.
